The Sixties

The origins of the company go back to 1968. In that year, Prof. Dr. Fritjof Haft published his work Nutzanwendungen kybernetischer Systeme im Recht, his dissertation, and in 1970 revised as a book under the title Elektronische Datenverarbeitung im Recht - Ein Überblick.

The Seventies

The Eighties

In the eighties Fritjof Haft initiated the development of the Tübinger Dialog, the first executable piece of software aimed at mastering legal complexity: for more on this see Ringwald (Hrsg.), Perspektiven formaler Methoden im Recht, 1986, S. 17 ff. Together with Kreppel he developed the first computer-supported legal education program in Germany, which was designed for tax analysis of spouse-work relationships, for Datev eG in Nuremberg. In the eighties the LEX project was completed in cooperation between the University of Tübingen and IBM Germany with the goal of developing a natural language legal expert system. The Nineties

The nineties were greatly influenced by the Internet. In 1995 the direct forerunner of today's Normfall software came to life with the Normfall pilot project.

The New Millennium

In 2000 Normfall GmbH was founded. The company grew rapidly. During the first year of its existence Normfall Manager was launched. Shortly thereafter versions 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0 followed, each with new functions, tailored to meet the needs of the users. Normfall Manager found widespread use in a series of large proceedings in white-collar crime and housing law. Up to 600 office folders could be digitally organized by the parties of the proceedings using the program. Additionally, versions 1.0 and 2.0 of Normfall Trainer were released. The first Contents were also created, including the Normfall Kommentar StGB and the Lerntrainer Strafrecht AT, both composed by Fritjof Haft.

In the new millennium the development of Normfall products has continued. New functions have been created to better support the needs of lawyers employing computer technology in processing of legal cases. It is and will remain Normfall's goal to provide lawyers with the best available software for their endeavors.
